Spencer Kristensen is a Digital Content Producer for KOAA News5 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Upon graduating from high school, Spencer, much to his parent’s chagrin, moved to Los Angeles to pursue filmmaking at the tender age of 19. After two years and a pantheon of humbling lessons, he eventually decided to return to Pueblo and enroll in university.
Spencer is a recent graduate of Colorado State University Pueblo where he graduated with a degree in digital marketing and media production, alongside a minor in audio production. While attending CSU Pueblo, Spencer was the lead student producer for the video production department.
Outside of the newsroom, Spencer loves to work on writing scripts, cinematography, and lighting, making music, film scoring, and the odd stand-up comedy set. He is also an avid movie watcher and a die-hard Arsenal fan.
In the future he wants to be a director, but has several other roles in the film industry he would comfortably fall into. Spencer wants to make short films pursue the film festival circuit, and hopefully receive the opportunity to break into narrative feature films.
His motivation for working in journalism is community. He says, “Since the dawn of humanity the only way we have endured is through community and working together. I believe that media is the greatest way to connect as people, and it is essential to create ethical, relatable, and accurate information and stories.”
He is looking forward to connecting with the people of Colorado and growing in his role to create the best media possible.
