Sky View Middle School to have heightened security Thursday following Safe2Tell tip

The school will have heightened security with additional district personnel and sheriff's deputies present at the school today after receiving a Safe2Tell Tip. According to a post on the district's Facebook page, the tip was vague about a possible threat at the school on Thursday.

Suspect identified in fatal shooting near downtown Colorado Springs

The Colorado Springs Police Department has identified the suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred Monday near downtown Colorado Springs. CSPD has identified the suspect in the shooting as 56-year-old John Stokes of Colorado Springs. The victim of the shooting has been identified as Nicholas Anderson, a local tattoo artist and father.

Cold winter storm arrives with snow and frigid temperatures

The first cold front arrived late last night that brought strong winds and this morning, a second front is set to arrive. Snow has already been developing over northern El Paso, toward Teller and Douglas counties. These areas are under a winter weather advisory until 6 p.m. tonight.

Pike National Forest tree cutting permits to go on sale

The National Forest Service announced Christmas tree permits are going on sale in just over one month, but you can start requesting your permits today. Anyone with a permit can cut trees almost anywhere on the district. When you purchase a permit, a map will come with it showing any restrictions.

State unveils plan for healthcare public option

A major change is under consideration for how Coloradoans will pay for and receive health care in the future. State lawmakers will receive a proposal next month for a public option which they can then turn into law.
