PIKES PEAK REGION — Heads up! You have until Dec. 24 to purchase your Christmas tree permit, according to the National Forest Service.
Christmas tree permits from the South Park Ranger District of the Pike National Forest can be purchased for just $20 per tree.
You can request a permit by mail and writing to: South Park Ranger District, Attn: Christmas Tree Permit, PO Box 219, Fairplay CO 80440.
If you want to buy a permit in person:
- Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Saturdays (Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14, Dec. 21 only) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Sundays (Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 only) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The South Park Ranger District said anyone with a permit can cut trees almost anywhere on the district.
When you purchase a permit, a map will come with it showing any restrictions.
Since the forest roads are not plowed, the district said four-wheel drive, high-clearance and/or chains might be necessary.
