COLORADO SPRINGS — There were two shootings over the weekend in Colorado Springs around a mile away from one another, and both were at popular places to spend an evening. The recent violence in the area around North Academy Boulevard and Austing Bluffs Blvd. has some people in the area concerned, as they said they believe there has been an increase in crime.

Over the weekend at Old Chicago, police said someone tried to rob the restaurant and fired a weapon, hitting an employee. Police said the employee is expected to recover. Officers are still searching for the suspect.

Just around a mile away, police reported a shooting at 'The Social' nightclub. That shooting killed one woman and injured two men, according to police.

When we interviewed Lynne Fillipponi after she had gone grocery shopping, she said she had no idea what happened just a few days earlier in the same complex where she had been shopping. "I'm shocked... There's a lot more [crime] for sure," said Fillipponi, who has lived in the area for around 27 years. Fillipponi said the area is still her favorite part of Colorado Springs, and she has no plans of moving.

One of the people News 5 spoke with said they saw the aftermath of The Social shooting incident. Donald Harris moved to the area just a few months ago, but said the recent crime is only going to make him more aware of his surroundings. "Prepare yourself the best way you can, but don't stop living," said Harris.

News 5 spoke with a representative from Old Chicago, who said they are taking steps to ensure the safety of their employees and patrons.

Police have not yet released the names of those involved in the weekend shootings.
