The Custer County Sheriff's Office reported some damage from a tornado that touched down near the Deweese Reservoir Monday afternoon in Custer County. It caused "significant damage" to a trailer and home." The National Weather Service is set to survey the damage Tuesday. Meanwhile, CDOT has reopened Highway 96 after a rockslide damaged the roadway and closed it between Wetmore and Westcliffe.
Flash flooding will be the primary concern along the Spring Fire and Junkins Fire burn scars this afternoon. Storms will start over the mountains in the Pikes Peak Region and across the southern mountains, and then move east and southeast into the I-25 corridor. Heavy rain, lightning and even hail are the main threats from storms this afternoon and evening.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has issued a Missing Endangered Alert in Southern Colorado for 1-day-old Leah Sandoval, who was last seen with her mother, Cynthia Sandoval. She was last seen leaving an Alamosa hospital in a late model, gold colored Chrysler Imperial. The CBI said the two are believed to be in the Alamosa area.
Cynthia Sandoval is described as White/Hispanic, standing 5'3" tall, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black jacket and camouflage sweat pants. Anyone with information should call authorities immediately.
Colorado Springs police say a man has died following a crash in the northbound lanes of N. Academy Boulevard between Palmer Park and San Miguel around 9:30 p.m. Monday. The crash marks the 25th traffic death this year. There were 26 in Colorado Springs at this time last year.
