Colorado's daily COVID-19 case count, hospitalizations reach highest levels yet

Colorado’s state epidemiologist said in a news conference Thursday that she believes coronavirus is circulating at its highest levels yet in the state as hospitalizations here have also topped their April high point. State Epidemiologist Dr. Rachel Herlihy said she believes about 1 in 100 Coloradans currently have COVID-19, as cases have topped 2,000 per day over the past week and 3,000 over the past couple of days.

'Hoedown for Heroes' fundraiser streaming live on KOAA News5

Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center is hosting its annual Hoedown for Heroes event Friday, Nov. 6, and News5 is partnering with the nonprofit to help raise money to support our local veterans and their families. Our own Elizabeth Watts will be hosting the live stream event which will be on koaa.com and the KOAA5 Facebook page at 6 p.m.

Windy and mild with high fire danger today
Thursday was absolutely amazing out there but it's time for the weather to get more active! Red Flag Warnings are in place today across the plains with low humidity and strong winds. We'll see highs in the mid-70s today even under building cloud cover. Overnight we'll stay dry and the winds will back off with lows in the 40s.

Major jail upgrades underway after dozens of inmates "pop" locks and get of their cells

News5 Investigates has found within the last year, dozens of inmates inside the El Paso County Jail have been "popping" their door locks and getting out of their cells. In some cases, the inmates are attacking other inmates and putting staff at risk. This security breach has also become more severe in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
