PUEBLO – Work is about to resume on the I-25 Ilex project in Pueblo. Crews have been on hiatus through the cold winter months.

A lot of the project area looks new and mostly complete.  It has led to some drivers asking why lanes of a multi-million dollar project are so bumpy. “We have those comments…, thinking that was the finished product,” said Colorado Department of Transportation Resident Engineer, Joe Deheart. The lane surface through the winter is the base for the final layer that is about to be put in place.

The project has just six to eight weeks of finish work that will smooth out those bumps. “We always knew we were going to be putting this last lift of asphalt in, in this May and June time frame,” said Deheart. Workers will do sealing work on bridges in May. There is a small break for Memorial Day weekend. The final paving will happen with overnight work during the first couple weeks of June.
