Woman killed in crash that closed Highway 24 overnight

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. – The Colorado State Patrol says a 25-year-old woman is dead following a crash on Highway 24 west of Calhan Tuesday morning.

The two-vehicle crash happened at Highway 24 and Soapweed Road at around 1:30 a.m. The highway was closed in both directions between McClelland Road and North Ellicott Highway.

State Patrol says the woman who died was driving a 2003 KIA. Her passenger, a 24-year-old woman was taken to UCHealth Memorial Hospital for treatment. The other driver, a 22-year-old woman, was flown by helicopter to Penrose Hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
