COLORADO SPRINGS — Concerns over COVID-19 are growing, as schools close and businesses have new restrictions placed on them.

In the Mountain Shadows neighborhood, they wanted to make the most out of a challenging time for families. Something the neighborhood is not unfamiliar with as many of them were sent out of their homes and even lost their homes in the 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire.

"It changed us and we kind of all pulled together," said Eddie Hurt, a neighbor who's lived in the neighborhood for about 18 years.

With the kids home from school, one neighbor saw an idea online and decided to pitch the idea to her neighbors- a shamrock scavenger hunt. The rules-- keep the shamrocks in the windows or outside the house for kids to spot.

Kayla Ratz sent out the idea to her neighborhood group Monday night around 6 p.m. Less than 24 hours later, shamrocks were spotted throughout the neighborhood.

"I know it's crazy," Ratz said. While Ratz didn't know how many people ended up participating-- Hurt says he and his teenagers found about 56 shamrocks in the neighborhood.
