FOUNTAIN — A Walmart employee in Fountain who tested positive for COVID-19 also worked at a Pizza Hut, according to the El Paso County Health Department.
The man worked at the Walmart on Highway 85/87 in Fountain and the Pizza Hut on Mesa Ridge Parkway.
Michelle Hewitt with El Paso County Public Health said both businesses have been proactive when it comes to deep cleaning common areas and putting social distancing measures into place. They are offering gloves, masks, and hand sanitizers for shoppers and are sanitizing shared equipment between each use.
Hewitt said the Pizza Hut did close for a thorough cleaning and disinfecting over the weekend. They are currently operating on limited hours, working from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Hewitt also said the state's stay-at-home order and social distancing guidelines are important to "help protect both employees who work at Critical Businesses and the public alike." Gov. Jared Polis issued the order last month and it has been in effect since March 26.
This order is in place to discourage people from venturing outside of their homes on non-essential trips. If you are entering public places, you should be doing so for essential needs.
Polis also announced that the state government is asking "all Colorodans to wear face coverings when they go out of the house for essential functions like grocery shopping."
Officials are recommending a cloth face mask or a scarf as an essential part of our daily routine. It should cover the mouth and the nose. When washing you should use the hot setting on your washer.
The state has set up the Colorado Mask Project to provide instructions on how to make these masks. According to that website, DIY masks can help stop the spread of COVID-19 by people who might be infected with the virus, but do not have any symptoms.
As of Monday afternoon, there are 641 confirmed cases in El Paso County and 39 deaths.
