DENVER — We’re getting a clearer picture of the data surrounding the number of hospitalizations in Colorado due to COVID-19.
The Colorado Hospital Association (CHA) began releasing the number of patients who have been discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment for the viral infection.
As of Tuesday, there were 521 COVID-19 patients discharged from Colorado hospitals, with 1,215 still receiving hospital care. The cumulative total of hospitalizations in Colorado was 1,556 as of 4 p.m. Tuesday.
That number of hospitalizations had grown steadily since mid-March but has leveled off in the past week , according to the CHA.
The CHA provided the following breakdown showing the number of patients discharged starting with Sunday when Colorado hospitals began collecting and reporting this data:
Governor Jared Polis said he is encouraged that the data surrounding the number of discharges is being released.
“I applaud the hospitals for finally disclosing this information. This is very useful data that informs our planning around how many hospital beds are needed and increases our knowledge of the trajectory of the virus in Colorado,” Polis said in CHA release.
The CHA said, thus far, Colorado hospitals have had sufficient ventilators and critical care beds to care for COVID-19 patients.
