Colorado’s 43rd Governor Jared Polis sworn in Tuesday

DENVER-  Hundreds gathered outside the steps of the west entrance to the state capitol Tuesday, as Colorado’s Chief Supreme Court Justice Nathan B. Coats swore in Governor Jared Polis and Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera.

Addtionally, State Treasurer Dave Young, Secretary of State Jena Griswold, and Attorney General Phil Weiser all took the oath of office.

In an inauguration ceremony encompassing the Governor’s message ‘Colorado for All,’ where different faiths, cultures, and backgrounds presented various speeches, poems, and blessings.

‘I must begin by saying I am very conscious of the fact that there were many brave people over the years who made it possible for someone like me to be standing here giving a speech like this,’ said the Governor as he addressed the crowd Tuesday.

During his inauguration, blessings from Sikh Priests and the Ute Tribe were performed along with a poetry recitations.

A Rabbi performed the benediction, as Polis is the state’s first Jewish Governor.

Among the firsts for Polis’, his election win received national attention as he is the country’s first openly-gay Governor.

Diversity not only in his office, but this year Colorado has a record number of women serving in the General Assembly, as well as  the state’s first transgender woman.

‘I believe there is nothing that Colorado needs to do that Coloradans can’t get done. There is nothing wrong with Colorado, that what is right with Colorado can’t fix,’ said Polis.

While Governor Polis mentioned some of his campaign promises in his remarks, his first State of the State address is expected to explain in detail the policies he’ll focus on.
