FREMONT COUNTY – A man from Canon City died in a car crash early Sunday morning. According to the Colorado State Patrol, 23-year-old Jeremiah Patton was attempting to elude a Florence Police Officer along East 6th Street when he struck an embankment causing the vehicle to become airborne. The 2007 Ford Fusion collided with the opposite embankment causing it to overturn and come to a stop on its roof.

Patton was not wearing a seatbelt. He was ejected from the vehicle and then pinned underneath it. He pronounced dead at the scene.

According to State Troop Eric Zachareas, the Florence Police Officer was attempting to pull over Patton for speeding. There was no obvious indication at the crash scene that Patton was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
