COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — On Wednesday and Thursday, Meteorologist Alan Rose and Meteorologist Alex O'Brien visited the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at Roosevelt Charter Academy to talk about severe weather and how to be Storm Safe.
They went through the main severe weather types seen most frequently in Southern Colorado, which includes tornadoes, thunderstorms, winter weather and dangerous floods, and learned that hail is our primary severe weather threat.
A highlight of the talk was a weather experiment using a hair dryer and ping pong balls, demonstrating the way hail forms in thunderstorms. Mr. Rose also used classroom volunteers to help describe Earth's relationship to the sun, and how that creates different seasons.
