ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A New Mexico man is being hailed a hero after saving a baby and a toddler who were dropped from an apartment window during a fire in northeastern Albuquerque Friday.
Mason Fierro and other construction workers were putting a roof on the building next door when flames broke out.
Fierro said he ran towards the building and saw on the second story of the apartment complex a man was dangling a baby out the window. Fierro then called out for the man to drop the baby into his arms.
Next, the father brought out his toddle son. With the help of his brother, Fierro also caught the boy.
"He might not remember my name or my face, but he knows that somebody helped him. That's all that I care about honestly," Fierro said.
Police said three people were sent to the hospital, two children were taken to the hospital by family members and one person was taken by ambulance for smoke inhalation. All are in stable condition.
Authorities said the apartment complex is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
