COLORADO SPRINGS – Volunteer construction workers are working to revamp and expand a playground for a Colorado Springs Head Start program.

The time, materials, and manpower needed to complete the project all donated by a collection of Colorado construction companies organized by the Emerging Leaders Council of the Colorado Contractors Association, a local chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America.

The work is part of the Autodesk Operation Opening Doors project.

The overall project will double the size of the existing playground located at Evans Elementary and add several new features including a tricycle ‘race track.’

“Kids were super excited, they were jumping up and down and I just hope that’s the reaction they have each time they get to come out and ride,” stated Betsy Wagner, the project coordinator.

The track will come complete with road and speed limit signs, road stripes, and much more.

Crews estimate that the donated project, under normal circumstances, would cost around $50,000.
