COLORADO – New trains have been ordered for the Pikes Peak Cog Railway and they’ve been ordered from a company in Switzerland.

The famous attraction will be receiving 3 new diesel locomotives and 9 passenger coaches, according to a recent release from Stadler, the Swiss railway construction company.

According to Gary Pierson, Chairman and CEO of the Broadmoor-Sea Island Company, these new additions will be joined by 4 refurbished units taken from the existing fleet at the Cog Railway.

The vehicles will be used to travel the railway that is slated to be completely overhauled, “It’s been 127 years since anybody has built a passenger rail line up the side of Pikes Peak,” stated Pierson, “so replacing it from bottom to top is quite an epic adventure.”

The project is estimated to cost about $100,000,000 and wrap up in May of 2021.
