COLORADO SPRINGS — Southern Colorado tourist attractions have been very busy for the Labor Day holiday weekend. The crowds are welcome after a slow start earlier this summer. "We also experience that slow start," said Amp’d Adventures, Owner, Mark Smith. Summer started with a lot of rain and cooler than typical temperatures.

It looks like the end of summer will more than make up for the slow start. Numbers shared by Dolores Davis with the Garden of the God Visitor and Nature show visitor numbers there up approximately 2% compared to the previous summer.

Smith’s business offers guided tours of Garden of the Gods on electric assist bikes. He says they noticed an increase in visitors mid-summer. "Latter June and July was absolutely bonkers, crazy. I mean it was really, really busy. Still continues to be so."

Tourism is major contributor to Colorado’s economy. Visitor numbers at a key location like Garden of the Gods is a good indicator of what is happening at other locations.
