Suspect facing DUI and vehicular assault charges after crash that took man's leg fails to appear in court

COLORADO SPRINGS — Tara Studer was a no show in court Tuesday and now has a warrant out for her arrest.

She is facing charges that include DUI and Vehicular assault for a crash in July that resulted in a local musician losing a leg.

On July 9, 2019, local musician Mike Elmore was unloading equipment from a van on Colorado Avenue, when police said an SUV slammed into him. Elmore's son said he was severely hurt, losing part of his right leg, shattering his left leg, breaking ribs, and breaking his right arm near the shoulder, among other injuries.

Studer was charged with Vehicular Assault/DUI (Felony), DUI (Misdemeanor), and Driving Under Restraint (Misdemeanor).

Later in the year, she got into more trouble. On Dec. 22, 2019 she was charged with Motor Vehicle Theft/agg 2-over $20,000 (Felony), Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft/agg 2-over $20,000 (Felony), Criminal Impersonation (Felony), False Reporting/False ID (Misdemeanor), and Driving Under Restraint (Misdemeanor). Then on Dec. 23, 2019 she was charged with Attempted Escape (Felony).

She bonded out of jail on Christmas day and was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to face all charges. She failed to appear and now has a warrant out for her arrest for failure to appear.
