KIOWA COUNTY — Colorado State Patrol is working to learn what led to a crash Thursday in Kiowa County that killed one person and sent another to the hospital.
Troopers say just after noon Thursday Nicholas Seigle, 30, from Wichita, Kansas, was headed east on Highway 96 about five miles east of Eads when he drifted from his lane on a curve and collided head-on with a Kenworth semi pulling an empty trailer.
Seigle was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, but died at the scene.
The semi driver, Damas Perrin, 65, from Travis, Texas, was flown to a Colorado Springs hospital in serious but stable condition.
The crash is still under investigation, but CSP says alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be factors.
