SOUTHERN COLORADO — A squirrel appears to be the culprit in a major power outage in Southern Colorado on Monday.

According to San Isabel Electric, a squirrel caused a two-hour power outage that affected around 8,000 meters from the Greenhorn Valley to the Trinidad area.

The company said they began investigating after the outage occurred shortly before noon Monday. The investigation revealed a squirrel on a transformer interrupted power to multiple San Isabel Electric substations.

Power was restored to all customers just before 2 p.m., according to San Isabel. Any customers whose power is still out are asked to call 1-800-279-7432.
