Sheriff's Office charge man with murder of his adoptive father

EL PASO COUNTY — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged a man with the murder of his adoptive father.

On May 13 at approximately 1:36 p.m., the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Communications Center dispatched Manitou Springs Police officers to El Paso Boulevard in Manitou Springs on a check the welfare call. After arriving on the scene, officers discovered a dead man inside a residence.

Due to the suspicious circumstances found, Manitou Springs Police Department asked for the assistance of The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division.

The dead man has been identified as 70-year-old Darrell Berry.

44-year-old Bobby Joe Berry was named a person of interest in this case. On August 27, he was arrested in Colorado Springs on unrelated charges.

The case, originally listed as a suspicious death case, has now been upgraded to a homicide.

On September 29, Berry was charged with First Degree Murder.
