COLORADO SPRINGS — New Year’s Day in Colorado Springs brought a lot of support for El Paso County Search and Rescue.

"Just under 1,200 and that's probably a record."

More than a thousand people made an early and energetic start to 2020 by taking part in the rescue run fundraiser.

El Paso County’s team is among the busiest search and rescue groups in the state. They are volunteers and do not charge when call out to help.

"Nobody ever goes out to play in the outdoors to have a rescue happen, but things do happen and we're always glad to be there for people," Teresa Taylor with El Paso County Search and Rescue said.

The more than 40-year Rescue Run tradition is the groups biggest fundraiser of the year.
