Investigators spend hours at violent crime scene

COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs Police Department officers were working the scene of a burglary in the early hours of Monday morning when they heard gunshots ring out. Now, investigators want to know if the two crimes are related and who fired the shots.

Officers were investigating a report of a burglary in the area of Brookside Street and Tejon Street just before 1 a.m. Monday when they heard gunfire. Officers found the victim a short time later in the 100 block of Brookside Street and called for an ambulance.

CSPD did not have any suspect descriptions currently available.

Police said a large perimeter was set up in the area while officers searched for potential suspects. The homicide unit has been called to assist with the investigation.

CSPD said the unidentified male was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
