EL PASO COUNTY — Access to the COVID-19 vaccine in El Paso County is expanding for anyone over the age of 70. Centura Health will be starting invitations Thursday January 14th for those in the 70 plus crowd who have signed up through their system.

The UC Health system had enough vaccine supply to start with senior citizens a few days earlier. There are numerous other health providers in El Paso County at various stages of providing the vaccine.

Leaders at El Paso County Health everyone to know this is not us against them competition for the vaccine. "Part of these provider's commitment is to be available to the community,” said El Paso County Public Health Medical Director, Dr. Robin Johnson.

In El Paso County you can register with more than one provider even if you are not a currently enrolled patient. "Will have access in some way and not have to wait until their provider actually has opportunity to have that vaccine." So, for example if your primary care happens through UC-Health you can also try through, Centura, Peak Vista or the V-A and get the vaccine where you are offered it first.

In Pueblo County most vaccines for people over 70 are happening at Public Health vaccination events. There is an example of a man in his 70's on their vaccine wait list. When to come in, he said he was getting a vaccine through the V-A. The next person on the list got that dose.
