COLORADO SPRINGS — After the Waldo Canyon Fire, The Independence Center says it noticed a gap in emergency preparedness for people with disabilities.

A spokesperson for The Independence Center said the organization has since worked with local experts and officials to put together a Personal Emergency Preparedness Workbook.

"Although much of it discusses what to do before a disaster happens, it has ideas that people may not have thought about yet," Amber Carlton with The Independence Center said.

One of the most important aspects of independent living is developing the capacity to keep ourselves safe at home, work and in the community and The Independence Center is pleased to offer this workbook to help people with disabilities plan for emergencies," The IC said. "Having an emergency plan in place will increase your confidence in your own ability to stay safe in a disaster situation."
