COLORADO SPRINGS — The Colorado Springs Police Department has identified 35-year-old James Cleghorn as the man killed in this morning's single vehicle crash on Templeton Gap Rd.

According to CSPD, Cleghorn was heading east in his Chevrolet Malibu when he hit a curb then went across the road before impacting with a tree.

Cleghorn died at the scene.

Templeton Gap Road was closed from Corinth Drive to Oakwood Boulevard for the investigation.

Cleghorn's death is the first traffic fatality this year in Colorado Springs. It is unknown at this time if excessive speed, drugs or alcohol played a role in this crash.

The city started an aggressive traffic enforcement program in 2019 to combat a concerning number of deaths on the road in 2018. The police department used grant funds to pay for officers and equipment used for targeted traffic enforcement in known trouble spots, like all of Academy Blvd where many serious crashes occur every year.
