COLORADO SPRINGS — The holiday season can be a stressful time, especially financially for many families. Which is part of the reason why Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) is offering up some help for people to exchange their old lights for LED ones.
The proceeds collected from this program will go to support Project COPE- a program through CSU which helps people with their utility bills during times of crisis or other emergencies. The program is year round, but by offering a discount on LED lights- the program can collect money to help those who need it during hard times.
Another benefit for many, is the LED lights can save money in the long run on utility bills.
"They are safer, they are sturdier and they will last longer so they will save you money on your utilities bill," said Danielle Oller, Public Affairs Specialist with Colorado Springs Utilities.
Here's how the program works: Anyone can turn in up to three strands of old lights, in exchange for $5 gift certificate for each strand, for a total of $15 to be applied towards LED lights at any ACE Hardware location in Colorado Springs.
