COLORADO SPRINGS — Fifth grade students from Christa McAuliffe Elementary in Colorado Springs had a STEM focused tour of Falcon Stadium Wednesday.

Preparations are still well underway ahead of Saturday's NHL Stadium Series game where the Colorado Avalanche will take on the Los Angeles Kings.

As part of NHL's Future Goals - Hockey Scholar program, the students learned how the ice rink was built and how it responds to the weather. They also learned about the latest technology and engineering that goes into a large event such as this.

The goal of the tour was to show students real like applications of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

Adding icing on the cake, the students received tickets to attend the game!

The game on Saturday will be the 30th NHL game played outside, as well as the second NHL game played at a U.S. Service Academy. You can watch it starting at 6 p.m. MST on KOAA.
