Suspect killed in officer involved shooting in Monument

Investigators say a suspect who barricaded himself inside a home in Monument was killed in a shooting with police. Police requested help from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and while they were trying to get in contact with the suspect, shots were fired.

Strong winds, high fire danger, and record heat in the forecast today

Weather alert day for southern Colorado due to low humidity and high winds combining to enhance fire danger across the state. The high winds and low humidity will work with sunny skies to push high temperatures across the region almost 20 degrees above average.

CSU warns customers of phone scam

Scam callers have been targeting Colorado Springs Utilities customers and asking for an immediate credit card payment or prepaid card to avoid disconnection for a past due balance. The scammers are also claiming the money will be used to pay for a new meter and customers will be reimbursed in a couple months. CSU said they will never call and ask for card information.

The arrival of fall means flu vaccination season is underway. El Paso County Public Health reported over 450 influenza hospitalizations last season, which can be deadly for people between the ages of 0 and 4 or 65 years and older.

Search underway for Colorado plane missing after leaving Santa Fe, New Mexico

Authorities continue to search for a small plane that might have crashed in the Pecos Wilderness northeast of Santa Fe. Authorities have not identified the two people from Colorado who were aboard the single-engine, four-seater plane that disappeared after a refueling stop.
