Local hospitals feeling the strain of COVID-19 as cases surge in the state
Coronavirus cases continue to surge in Colorado and hospitals are feeling the impact. According to data compiled by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, approximately 1 in 40 Coloradans are currently sick with the virus. Roughly 80% of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) hospital beds in the state are currently occupied. UCHealth Memorial Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Steinbruner told reporters during a virtual press conference Thursday there are currently 150 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, triple the 50 or so system.
Highway 24 reopens in Falcon following brush fire response
Following emergency response in the area of Highway 24 for a brush fire, the highway reopened just before 6 a.m. Friday morning after being closed for several hours. The Colorado Department of Transportation tweeted around 2:20 a.m. that the highway was closed at Meridian Road for crews responding to the fire. Later on, the department specified fire activity was between East Woodmen Road and Falcon Highway.

While many businesses, like restaurants, have struggled to rebound during the pandemic, some business owners are seeing their best sales yet. That's because before the pandemic, people were shopping at stores, but now, many are turning to online marketplaces like Etsy. Man accused of firing shots toward Fountain police officers
An arrest has been made in connection to shots being fired at three police officers who were standing in a Colorado Springs parking lot Wednesday night, according to the Fountain Police Department. The department said three officers were in a parking lot in the 4400 block of Venetucci Boulevard around 9:20 p.m. when they heard gunshots. They later said they saw a black truck driving slowly on Venetucci toward South Academy Boulevard when the truck passed the parking lot and fired shots "in the direction of where the officers were standing."
