FALCON — Following emergency response in the area of Highway 24 for a brush fire, the highway reopened just before 6 a.m. Friday morning after being closed for several hours.
Fire officials gave an update around 7:30 a.m. and said the fire was along Highway 24 between Meridian Road and Falcon Highway. The brush fire was less than 5 acres in size and is now 99% contained with no structures impacted.
The Colorado Department of Transportation tweeted around 2:20 a.m. that the highway was closed at Meridian Road for crews responding to the fire. Later on, the department specified fire activity was between East Woodmen Road and Falcon Highway.

There have been strong winds reported in the area Friday morning with speeds up to 19 mph. The highway reopened before 6 a.m. Friday.
