FOUNTAIN — An arrest has been made in connection to shots being fired at three police officers who were standing in a Colorado Springs parking lot Wednesday night, according to the Fountain Police Department.

The department said three officers were in a parking lot in the 4400 block of Venetucci Boulevard around 9:20 p.m. when they heard gunshots. They later said they saw a black truck driving slowly on Venetucci toward South Academy Boulevard when the truck passed the parking lot and fired shots "in the direction of where the officers were standing."

The truck was stopped by Fort Carson Military Police as it tried to enter the post and with the use of surveillance footage from nearby businesses on Venetucci, the police department said it was able to identify the truck as the one officers saw in the parking lot.

The department said 21-year-old Michael Hughes was arrested and charged with three counts of felony first-degree assault on a peace officer. There were other passengers in the truck who also have charges pending against them. No officers were injured as a result of the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding the ongoing investigation is asked to contact the Fountain Police Department at (719) 390-5555. If you would like to remain anonymous, you can call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-7867.
