Good morning southern Colorado and happy Friday! Here's what you need to know to start you off on your day.

Labor Day Lift Off returns with a change for 2019

It is the largest hot air balloon event in Colorado with more than 75 balloon and 60 vendors taking part. You can head over to Memorial Park this Labor Day weekend for the 43rd annual Labor Day Lift Off. The festival runs through Monday and is free to attend.

Shots fired overnight near CSPD Operations Center

Police said they found evidence of shots being fired early Friday morning when they arrived to the scene at the intersection of South Weber Street and East Rio Grande Street. CSPD asks anyone with information to call the department at (719) 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at (719) 634-7867 if you'd like to remain anonymous.

Hurricane Dorian forecasts now project it could strengthen to Category 4

The storm is slowing its approach to the east coast of Florida and is gaining intensity. All of Florida's east coast remains in the cone with Dorian as a Category 4 hurricane moving in along Florida’s coast on Monday morning.

Strong to severe storms possible

Storms are back in the forecast today and they have the potential to be strong to severe across the region. The two biggest threats are quarter-sized hail and winds over 55 mph.

Fire crews responded to second fire at Ridgeview Place apartments

Fire crews from Colorado Springs worked very quickly to extinguish the flames of the second fire this week at the Ridgeview Place apartments. The fire Thursday before 10 p.m. shares a wall with the units that burned on Tuesday.
