PUEBLO – Pueblo emergency crews are preparing for a chemical emergency.

About 2,000 people took part in Pueblo’s Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness program exercise. The training is meant to help first responders get ready for hazardous situations not only at the Pueblo Chemical Depot, but also anywhere around Pueblo.

“We want them to take away first of all the confidence that they can do this is there were ever a real emergency like this,” said Wade Matthews, FEMA spokesperson. “They have done this before in practice and in exercise situation, they can do this for real.”

The exercise is done yearly to show that all the pueblo agencies can work together in case a chemical emergency happens.
