PUEBLO – The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that authorities have a suspect in custody following an hours-long standoff near Central High School Monday morning.
Authorities told News5 they arrested a man named Jesse Murphy, who was suspected of stabbing another person in Pueblo West.
The situation started when a suspect barricaded themselves inside a house near the intersection of Broadway and E. Orman Avenue.
Police tell us there was a hostage inside the home and “there was a knife involved.”
The situation prompted a large police presence near the school, and it forced the district security to put the building on a “secure perimeter status.”
Students arriving at school were directed to another entrance farther from the scene. District 60 Spokesperson Dalton Sprouse tells us operations inside the school are normal and students and staff are safe.
