Police warning of a telephone scam

PUEBLO – If you or someone you know has received a threatening phone call from people posing as sheriff’s deputies, hang up the phone.

Police are warning residents of a telephone scam after several complaints to the Sheriff’s Office.

The caller threatens to arrest the person if they do not pay outstanding warrants for missing jury duty. The number where the calls are originating from is not a Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office number.

Sheriff Taylor says his office never calls the public asking for payments. All bonds and fees must be paid in person.

The Sheriff’s Office also wants to remind residents never to give personal or financial information over the phone.

If you receive similar phone calls or have any information related to the scam, contact the Sheriff’s Office at 719-583-6250.
