COLORADO SPRINGS – Around 7 p.m. Saturday night, Colorado Springs Fire Department crews responded to a home on N. Institute regarding a fire.
Lieutenant Howard Black with Colorado Springs Police department said an officer on routine patrol spotted the flames and quickly relayed the information to dispatch and Colorado Springs Fire Department.
Lt. Black said there may have been flammable materials like kerosene inside the garage but it’s still too early in the investigation to know for sure.
The fire was in a home located at 303 N. Institute.
Not long after arriving, crews were able to knock the flames down to a detached two-car residential garage.
The home is near the intersection of Platte and Institute and Platte was closed while crews worked.
Around 8 p.m., CSFD confirmed that one individual died in the fire.

At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.
The deceased individual has not been identified.
