COLORADO SPRINGS – Police arrested a suspected drunk driver after he drove over a roundabout in northern Colorado Springs, seriously injuring a passenger.
Police said 29-year-old Damian Arroyo was behind the wheel when he drove over the roundabout at Union and Nautilus Point around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the vehicle hit a tree, causing it to roll onto its roof and slide down the street before it hit a curb and flipped back over.
Police arrested Arroyo for driving under the influence and vehicular assault. Neither Arroyo or the passenger were wearing a seatbelt.
The passenger was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police said excessive speed may also be a contributing factor in the crash.
Union Boulevard reopened around 5 a.m.
