CANON CITY – It’s a town that’s on its way to hitting the big time as it continues to compete for a spot on Hulu’s Small Business Revolution – Main Street.

Canon City is in the Top 10 and is working to make its way to the Top 5.

Community members are continuing to post to social media with the hashtag #mycanoncity and it’s also offering some special promotions.

Dan Brown, owner of The Cell House, said, “At this point we’re already at a level of excitement that we’ve never had around here before.”

From signs, to marquees, to t-shirts, even an old Ford truck that’s making it’s way around town, the community is ready for Small Business Revolution. Next week a crew will be interviewing small business owners, the next step in getting Canon City on the TV show.

Ryan Stevens, economic development director for Canon City, said, “We have a lot of business owners, just like any small town, where they’re grinding day in and day out and they need some help.”

Brown said, “We’re small. We don’t have the foot traffic that we need and we’re hoping it will generate more foot traffic for us.”

If Canon City wins the competition it will receive a $500,000 revitalization from Deluxe Corporation. Six individual business makeovers will be featured in the upcoming season of the TV show.

Brown said, “We need some long-term marketing for this small business.”

People like Lynda and Dave Lambert want to get Canon City to the Top 5 and they’re pulling out all the stops. They organized a big cleanup this past weekend.

Lynda Lambert said, “We had over 150 people.”

Dave Lambert said, “Took out a lot of trash, a lot of stuff you don’t see…we’re big cheerleaders…if we can help in any way we’re here.”

Stevens said the Small Business Revolution crew will be in town on January 31st and February 1st. The Top 5 winners will be chosen on February 12th. The national winner will be chosen at the end of February.
