COLORADO SPRINGS – Sometime between Dec. 17th and Dec. 21st, someone took a stone from the site that will be the state’s first permanent memorial to war dogs.

War Dog Memorial Colorado was started by a husband and wife team in Colorado Springs and the stone marker was a gift to show the progress being made in getting a bronze statue at the site.

“Initially when I heard, I reacted with tears and sadness that someone would take something so precious to me, and that they would take something that was there marking a memorial to be dedicated to all those tens of thousands of dogs,” said Ruby Ridpath.

The couple said the theft only makes them more determined to raise the remaining $40 thousand or so dollars left for the project.

If you have any information related to this theft, you are asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department.
