Fugitive Patrick Olvera was captured after several days of searching in and around La Junta.

LA JUNTA – A man wanted on attempted murder charges for a shooting in La Junta is now in custody after several days of searching.

An alert was issued Saturday for people in La Junta and Otero County to be on the lookout for 40-year-old Patrick Olvera.  The search caused police to put the primary school in town on lockdown Wednesday.

Friday morning the Otero County Sheriff’s Office reports Olvera is now in custody thanks to a tip that led law enforcement to a spot north of La Junta. Deputies said he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

In addition to Olvera, four others were arrested on suspicion of unrelated charges. Details on their names were not available as of 1:30 p.m. Friday.

News5 is reaching out to the La Junta Police Department for more information on the shooting Olvera is accused of taking part in.

Otero County Sheriff’s Deputies, Officers with the La Junta Police Department, parole officers and Colorado State Patrol all took part in the search effort.
