COLORADO SPRINGS – Firefighters have gained control of a grass fire that burned between Highway 115 and Fort Carson Tuesday morning.

The fire was first reported around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, when it produced smoke between gate one and gate two of Fort Carson.

Fort Carson communications staff told News 5 that structures were not threatened.

Strong wind gusts in the area caused a large response to the fire. First Alert 5 Meteorologist Sam Schreier said wind gusts as high as 30 miles per hour were reported in the area.

Drivers should still use caution in the area while firefighters mop up hot spots in the area.
