PIKES PEAK REGION – If you’re planning to bring home your own fresh cut Colorado Christmas tree, permits are now available.

Monday morning, the Pikes Peak Ranger District started handing out permits for trees.

Those wanting to harvest their own tree will only have about two weeks to get it done though.

The last day to cut down trees is December 14th.

As it is every year, chainsaws are not allowed. Handsaws are the only way you can cut down your tree.

The fine for cutting a tree without a permit is $5,000 and or six months in jail.

Permits cost $20.
