LONGMONT – Marijuana became legal in Colorado in 2012 and not every city and town across the state embraced the idea of having recreational weed shops. Colorado Springs is one of those and it doesn’t really appear to be warming up to the idea.

Longmont was also on the list of places that wasn’t so hot on the idea, but they’ve since warmed up and that all changed with the opening of their first recreational weed dispensary which is now open for business. Terrapin Care Station is located on Main Street at about 21st Avenue. The Longmont City Council cleared the way to allow four recreational marijuana dispensaries to open. The ordinance narrowly passed last July.

City leaders are hoping that the tax revenue from the dispensaries will raise money for more affordable housing options and local homeless programs. Terrapin Care Station is donating 100-thousand dollars to local nonprofit organizations.
