WOODLAND PARK – Homeowners and visitors to Woodland Park will likely see smoke coming from the North Slope of Pikes Peak today as fire managers take advantage of changing conditions to burn slash piles.
Wednesday’s slash pile burns are located south of the Pikes Peak highway and west of Cascade.
Earlier this month, crews burned roughly 600 slash piles on Pikes Peak.
Colorado Springs Utilities will conduct burn operations in the area through March 2019. The Springs Utilities Wildland Fire Team leads the effort in collaboration with several other agencies.
Similar projects are taking place across the state as part of fuels reduction and hazardous tree removal projects.
