FREMONT COUNTY – The Colorado State Patrol said two people died in a three-vehicle crash about 12 miles west of Cañon City on Highway 50 Tuesday night.

State Patrol said 75-year-old Marin Dobos from Glendale, Ariz. and a backseat passenger, only identified to authorities as “Pauline” were killed in the crash. Both were in a 2017 Ford Explorer that was hit head-on by a 2010 Mazda Tribute driving westbound that crossed into the eastbound lanes around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Troopers said alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor in this crash.

The driver of the Mazda, identified as 30-year-old Jacob Gagnard from Cañon City, was seriously injured in the crash. Another passenger in the Explorer suffered minor injuries.

CSP said the Mazda also hit a 2011 Nissan Juke just before it hit the Explorer. The driver of the Nissan was able to bring her car to a stop and was not injured.

Troopers are asking for possible witnesses to the crash to come forward. If you saw what happened, email CSP Trooper Eric Zachareas at Eric.Zachareas@state.co.us.
