MANITOU SPRINGS – An event unique to Colorado happened Saturday in Manitou Springs….People running with donkeys.

The Burro Racers were in Manitou Saturday morning for the Run With the Burros, an event put together by the Manitou Brewing Company.

Burro races started as a tradition in Colorado’s gold mining towns back in the 1940’s, and the company which is housed in a historic building that used to be a burro barn decided to keep the tradition alive.

The runners say it’s a one-of-a-kind experience and the animals love it.

“It’s just a blast. It brings a whole new level to running,” said burro runner, Curtis Kincaid.

“They love running. They are faster than us, they will outrun us any day. And so we kind of make it a point to go at whatever the runner’s pace is,” added Roland Brodeur.

The event has grown so much in popularity that Saturday’s run had around 200 registered runners and 30 burros.
