COLORADO SPRINGS – A spokesperson for the Colorado Springs Police Department confirms a robbery suspect involved in a police chase is now in custody.

They say the chase started around 8 a.m . after police attempted to make contact with the suspect in the Palmer Park area, west of Powers.

The suspect hasn’t been named yet… but police say they know this individual well.

They say the suspect took off–ramming two police cars, and driving through the retaining wall at a car wash.

From there, he traveled westbound. Police say at one point, we was driving southbound in the northbound lanes on Academy Blvd.

They tell News5 his driving became too “out of control,” and terminated their pursuit–but continued to track him via phone calls made to 911 about reckless driving throughout the city.  The suspect also reportedly attempted to carjack multiple vehicles.

At one point, the suspect made it to the intersection of Garden of the Gods and I-25, where he struck another car.

Police say he allegedly hit so many cars during the pursuit, officers were unable to initially give News5 an estimate of how many of them were damaged.

After hearing of another hit and run near Constitution and Circle, police received reports the suspect had taken off on foot.

They were able to set up a perimeter and pursue the suspect, east of the containment area.

Lieutenant Howard Black says it was their K9 officer that ultimately “ended the pursuit.”

The suspect was transported to a local hospital and is being monitored.

Black says he will be booked on numerous felony warrants, once he is released from the hospital.

No police officers, or citizens, were seriously hurt. The condition of the suspect is not being released at this time.
