CONEJOS COUNTY – Two people are in the hospital this morning with serious injuries after the pickup truck that they were riding in went off of Conejos County road 13 south of highway 15.
The driver, 35-year old Ryan Lopez, was airlifted to Memorial Hospital here in Colorado Springs and his passenger 37-year old Lena Atencio, was airlifted to University Hospital in Denver. Atencio has life-threatening injuries.
Neither of them were wearing seatbelts and they were both thrown from the truck when it rolled. The Colorado State Patrol says they believe alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors in the crash.
Charges are pending for the driver.
